Circle dances for all!

Circle dances for all!

I know that this upcoming weekend won’t be nearly as fun and exciting as last…because last weekend I had the pleasure of taking part in the first ever French Folk Dance Weekend at the Folk School! My head is full of all the new steps we danced; one-two-three in so many combinations! We learned several variations on the bourre, many of us did the mazurka for the first time, we danced the branle and several chain and circle dances. Christian and Cessany Montcriol, our fun (and quite funny!) instructors guided us through an amazing tour of France and the dancing that goes along with it. David DiGiuseppe, our personal musician/accordion player for the weekend was superb; a real treat.  Oh yeah, and Chris, one of my fellow students, brought and played her hurdy-gurdy!

If you want to see what French dancing looks like, Christian sent us a link to his blog, where a few short videos of the dances are posted.  Enjoy! I sure did.
