Have you always wanted to learn to call? Join Gaye Fifer for a week of all-day, hands-on, calling experience and mentorship. The Dance Callers’ Workshop for beginning to intermediate callers offers a supportive environment designed to help students discover their strengths and explore new ideas. Gain direct experience as you practice calling/teaching actual dances, followed by dancer critique and observations using a safe and supportive feedback model.
About the Instructor
Gaye is an accomplished contra dance caller from Pittsburgh, PA. An active dancer herself, she understands the subtleties of making contra dances particularly satisfying for dancers. Gaye’s instructions are clear and concise, as she is a teacher by profession. An easy smile and delightful sense of humor are part of her relaxed, pleasant style at the microphone. Gaye calls contra dances throughout the US and Canada.
Daytime Dance Volunteers Needed

This class is intended for contra dance callers who have already done some calling and are experienced dancers. Emphasis is on program planning, teaching techniques, working with beginners, and effectively using live music. Individualized instruction can also include calling squares and English country dances, as well as calling for family dances, schools, camps, weddings, etc. Two daily practice sessions with a group of dancers and nightly public dances ensure plenty of microphone time.
